The Summer of "Yes"

Papa and I had a talk before school was over and we decided to have this be the "Summer of Yes" for the Guppies (within reason and monetary restraints of course).  It's really important to us to keep the girls socially and physically active.  There is way too much time spent on the internet and texting these days, don't you think?

Guppy 1 has social anxiety.  It's hard to believe that she can get up on a stage in front of strangers and sing her heart out but can get physically sick when she is invited to a party with her friends.  This summer she has decided she wants to push her limits and break out of her shell so to speak.  She literally said to me over the weekend that she didn't want life to pass her by any longer.  So, it will be more "yeses" to having friends over, to getting rides to places, to visiting the local concert venue, to heading to the beach, to crossing off things on her summer bucket list, to getting driver's ed classes, and even to being "lazy" by taking a day or two to recharge batteries.

Guppy 2 wants more independence.  She has a great group of friends and they want to do a LOT this summer.  So, for her, it will be more "yeses" to going on walks and hikes with friends, going to places (like Laser Tag and the movies) without a parent tagging along.  It will also mean more giving chances for sleepovers and kids hanging out here since I haven't been saying OK as often as I should have been lately.

Papa will be working really hard this summer. The project he was given is 16 weeks long so it will go through until the fall.  His Summer of Yes is fully dedicating himself to this project and working crazy hours if needed.  He wants to make a name for himself and knows that this has the potential to "put him on the hospital map".  He will of course find time to spend with us on the weekends too.  =)

The Summer of Yes means something to me as well. It means more letting go of the housework (within reason) and possibly internet time so I can focus on being as present as possible.  It means letting go of our girls and trusting them to make good decisions while they are out.  It means being more spur of the moment.  It means chances to spend more quality time with Papa when he isn't working. And, it means finding the time to pursue my own interests as well.

Summer of 2016 is going to be a great one for my family.... Mostly because we are going to make it that way!

Do any of you have any summer plans/goals?
